G. K. Vasan

G K. Vasan is an indian politician. His full name is govindaswamy karuppiah vasan. G. K. Vasan was born on the 28th of december in the year 1964. He was born in sundara perumal koli, tamil nadu. His father g. K. Moopanar is a politician and was the former indian national congress leader. His mother’s name is kasthuri moopanar.

Vasan completed his schooling from madras christian college higher secondary school in chennai, tamil nadu. He pursued his bachelor of arts in corporate secretaryship from the new college of madras university in chennai, tamil nadu. He is married to an ma psychologist shrimathi sunitha vasan. They have a son whose name is g. K. Pranav.

Initially, vasan was involved in many political rallies and gatherings though he was not an official member of the party. He supported his father in all his political activities. After his father died, he had to take the responsibility of his father’s political party tamil maanila congress. Under vasan’s leadership, his party won 23 constituencies in the 12th tamil nadu state assembly elections.

In 2002, vasan got elected to the indian parliament from tamil nadu. After he became part of the indian national congress, vasan simultaneously worked in both state and national level politics. He became the secretary of all india congress committee in the year 2002. Vasan was sworn in as the union minister of shipping under manmohan singh.

After he became the minister of shipping, the shipping industry had a stupendous growth in its infrastructure and economic performance. Vasan was the first inducted of the union cabinet under manmohan singh.

He was the in charge of independent charge for statistics & programme implementation. Vasan was an admirer of carnatic music. He is currently the chairman of the board of trustees for thiruvayiru thyagabramha mahotsa sabha. It sponsors the annual aradhana festival of thyagaraja.
