Born on January 12, 1952, in Tamilnadu, India, Ponvannan has been active in the Tamil film and television circuit since the year 1989 and continue to mesmerize the audiences till today with his strong acting skills. He was seen a few years back appearing on the hit and popular Tamil comedy television show Veettukku Veedu Lootty alongside with his wife Saranya. The television serial mainly dealt with the day to day life events of a middle aged Tamil couple. The serial was of comedy genre and became hugely popular and successful among the audiences. Prior to becoming an acclaimed character role actor, Ponvannan worked as a writer and is also an avid painter who dreamt of opening a painting institute or painting school near his hometown in Tamilnadu Erode. But destiny had something else stored for him. Ponvannan accidentally landed up in writing script for one of the Tamil film and on that film’s set, the assistant director of the film offered him a small supporting character role. From then on, gradually acting offers started pouring in for him and Ponvannan gladly accepted those offers. Apart from acting in Tamil television shows and films he's also an’ acclaimed director, script and dialogue writer and is best known as the director of the blockbuster Tamil film Jamila.
