The film directed by Selva Raghavan made him a star overnight. Apart from the fame, he also achieved many awards for that movie, and South Filmfare awards are among them. He started working in the film industry in 2004 and was active till 2011. His full name is A. M. Ravi Krishna. His father is A. M. Rathnam, who was a famous film producer. He completed his primary schooling in India and then moved abroad to do his higher studies. He did his BA degree in multimedia in London. Then he studied Interactive communication at Pentamedia and got his diploma complete.

He later learned non-linear film editing at Sam Media. Ravi never wished to become an actor. Once, he came to India during his studies on vacation. During the break, he got a role in a movie, and after that, he started enjoying the work.
