Sugan Kartthi

Sugan Kartthi is a debut director and writer of the Tamil film industry. He was born on 14th April 1965 who hails from Tamil Nadu and currently lives in Chennai. The new director was formerly a member of the National Cadet Corps. Sugan Kartthi is an ambitious director, whose first film released on 22nd January 2016. The film’s name is ‘Moondraam Ullaga Por’. He had earlier stated in an interview that the film’s script was inspired by his village life in Pallipatti located in Dharmapuri- a small district in Tamil Nadu, India. The director got this film’s idea from his life as a part of the National Cadet Corps. The Tamil film Moondram Ullaga Por is a fictional war film which was both written and directed by Sugan Kartthi. The story of this film is challenging as it portrays a war set in the future between India and China, 2025. It was rumored to have been almost finished in September 2014 and shooting were wrapped up in 45 days. The impressively extensive CG work took one year to complete postponing the release date to 2016. Dheva was the cinematographer while Richard was the film’s editor and Ved Shankar was the music composer. After Dream Factory bought the film distribution rights in the beginning of 2016, the film was all set to be released with good publicity and hype. Sunil Kumar, a popular actor in the Tamil industry was signed for the central role of Major Saravanan after Sugan Kartthi was impressed by his performance in the film ‘Paalai’. The director signed Akhila Kishore to play a soldier’s wife. The story of this film is set in 2025 where the lead character is a Major General of the Indian Army. The protagonist Major Saravanan is harassed by the Chinese forces who try to extract confidential information about where Chinese soldiers have been held captive. Being a patriotic and dedicated patron, General Saravanan decides to handle this crisis by himself and warns the Chinese soldiers that there will be consequences for their actions. The General’s wife happens to be the only way these Chinese forces can threaten and extract information from him. The story revolves around how he resolves the crisis and teaches them a lesson. Moondram Ullaga Por received mixed reviews on the first week of release where critics applauded the protagonist Sunil Kumar’s performance as General Saravanan. Sugan Kartthi’s first attempt at writing and directing a film such as this was marked as over-ambitious by a few critics who believed that it had too much going on and the film’s budget did not do justice to its large-scale futuristic storyline.
