Deepak Kumar Padhy

Deepak Kumar Padhy is an Indian cinematographer who hails from Tamil Nadu. He comes from a family background that is closely associated with the world of cinema. His father Saroj Padhy, is a veteran cinematographer who has done more than 100 feature films in Malayalam. During his school days, for a large span of time, he spends at his father’s shooting spot. He went to Sri Krishnaswamy Matriculation Higher Secondary School (SKMHSS) and Devi Academy in Chennai.

He started his training under his father since fifth grade. Naturally, his father was Padhy’s role-model. He enrolled in Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu after completing his 12th grade. He assisted his father during the first year and by the third year, he became an operative cameraman in his movies. Later on, he became an independent cinematographer doing commercials.

His first three projects were in Malayalam. The first one was Kaaty and the second one was a feature film called Virus. Both of them had a good opening in international film festivals followed by the third one-Keralolsavam 2009. His first tamil film was Therodum Veethiyile directed by Saro Sriram. Padhy is known to be very choosy about his projects and likes varying from one film to the other.
