CJ Rajkumar

C.J. Rajkumar is an Indian Cinematographer, who mainly works in Tamil film industry. He also works in the other language films such as Kannada. Rajkumar works in the movies such as Periyar, Asthamanam, Panithuli, Ball Pen (Kannada film), Sattam Oru Iruttarai, and so on. He studied at SJP polytechnic college in KR circle of the Bangalore in the year 1995. And his Mechanical Engineering course at PSG tech college of Coimbatore in the state of Tamil Nadu in the year 1990. During his studies at PSG College of Technology, he enrolled his name in the photography club of college. It had been the initial part of his career as a cinematographer. He did his schooling in Perks Matriculation higher secondary school of Coimbatore from the year 1973 to 1985. Rajkumar wrote two books about Cinematography in the Tamil language named Asaiyum Padam and Pixel.

Asaiyum Padam has been the first book in the Tamil language which is written about Cinematography. His Pixel book writes about Digital Cinematography. This Pixel book was esteemed by media, reviewers, students and film industry. He has been the member of Southern India Cinematographer’s Association (SICA). Rajkumar’s Photographic works were praised and published in Asia’s leading photographic magazine named Better Photography. Unique articles about his photographic works had been published in the Tamil magazines such as Kungumam, Anantha Vikatan, and Aval Vikatan. His photographs were used as front covers for different types of novels. He is working as a cinematographer for the year of 2001. Rajkumar designed the lighting scheme for Theatre plays.

He conducts many seminars about cinematography at different institutions. In the year 2001, Rajkumar started his career in the short film Aayeesha. In this short film, he used an old lens in some portions of the short film, and it was appreciated for his creative use. The short film Aayeeshaa had directed by Sivakumar has got the awards in the category of the best short film at Mumbai International Film Festival and London Film Festival. His short film named En Veettin Mutrathil Oru Maamaram had selected in the 59th International film festival of Berlin competition. Rajkumar’s Malayalam short film The Backwaters had screened in several international film festivals. His native place has been Coimbatore, but he currently lives in Chennai for his work. Rajkumar likes to watch and do world cinemas. Indian Council of Photography recognized him in the year 1987-88. In the films like Kaadhal Kottai and Pandavar Bhoomi, he works as an assistant cinematographer.
