Desperate times call for desperate measures.
Following multiple failures, the Kollywood producers have decided to take things in their own hands. The Tamil Film Producers’ Council recently revealed their new business model, which includes a slew of reforms. According to the proposed reforms, actors will get a significant share of the revenue earned in total. This will ensure a price cap on the exorbitant salaries demanded by some actors, which impact the overall quality of the movie.

, Dhanush, Rajinikanth etc. will not be released on OTT until eight weeks of release. Films with mid tier actors will get a six window, while low budget films will have a four week window.
These steps have been taken in order to focus more the quality, rather than quantity of movies. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the industry hasn’t witnessed steady success except for sporadic hits like Vikram, Leo, Jailer etc. Things worsened last year, when just 18 out of 243 Tamil films managed to recover their costs, let alone be successful at the box office.
