Conrad was born in 1969, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and did his graduation from Florida State University and later majored in English from Northwestern University.

Conrad started his career from one of his Creative Writing Classes, by writing a short story that later became his first screenplay. ‘Wrestling Ernest Hemmingway (1993)’ was Conrad’s first screenplay that made almost 3 million dollars at the box office. Although the movie received mixed responses from the critiques, Conrad returned after 11 years to take on the role of screenwriter and director.

‘The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)’ is one of the most well-received works of Steven Conrad based on the true-life story of Chris Gardner. His style of screenplay is known to be very practical. He said in an interview that he pictured the movie in his mind with emphasizing on the hardships faced by the protagonist. He wanted to depict the life of a man who had struggled with everything he had to make both ends meet. Steven spent a lot of time with Chris Gardner discussing his life in depth. Another well-received work of Steven Conrad is ‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013)’ which is about a man with a normal life dreaming of having an adventurous and action-filled life. The film is an adaption of James Thurber’s 1939 short film with the same name. It had been adapted once in 1947 by Danny Kaye. It made 188.1 million dollars worldwide.
