Joan Baez is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and social activist. Her contemporary folk music consists of songs with the theme of social justice and protests. She was born on 9 January 1941 in New York City, U.S.A. She has written songs in various genres like folk, folk rock, gospel, county folk, and others in her 60-year-long career and has produced 30 albums. She has also recorded songs in more than six languages, some of them are English, Spanish, etc. She started her career with folk music, which has modified into folk rock and others. In 1960, she recorded and released her first album, “Joan Baez,” which became rapidly famous.
Her first three albums hold a “Gold Record” status. Her relationship with Bob Dylan became the subject of many songs composed by Joan and Bob, too. Her music became internationally famous and achieved praise throughout the years. Some of her most famous songs are “Diamonds and Rusts,” “Love is Just a Four Letter Word,” Farewell, Angelina,” “Forever Young,” “We Shall Overcome,” and many others. In 1969, she performed at “The Woodstock Festival” and committed her lifetime to social and political activism in the areas of civil rights, human rights, and the environment. On 7 April 2017, she enlisted into “The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”
