Hannah Gordon is a Scottish Actress. She is famous for her works in various TV series, including My Wife Next Door (1972), Joint Account (1989-90), Upstairs, Downstairs (1974-75) and Telford’s Change (1979). Hannah has appeared in 68 films till now. Her most appraised role on the big screen is "Anthony Hopkins’s wife in The Elephant Man" (1980). Gordon was born on April 9, 1941,at Edinburgh in Scotland. She was the daughter of Hannah Gordon and William Munro Gordon. Her two uncles and Aunt Maggie raised her after her parent’s demise whenshe was just 11 years of age.
After completing her secondary school from a local school, she attended the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Glasgow to study Drama, she enrolled in a Repertory Theatre at Dundee. After which, Hannah started living in London pursuing her career in Acting. She made a portfolio and auditioned at many places. She received a plethora of opportunities to appear in TV shows in the mid-1960 through her well-made portfolio. She appeared in series like"Out of the Unknown, Thirty-minute Theatre, David Copper field, and The Wednesday Play".
Hannah's role in The Highlanders(1966-67)enthralled many directors, due to which she soon grabbed leading role in 1972 cult sitcom My Wife Next Door (1972). She starred alongside John Alderton in this TV series. Her performance in this series earned rave reviews. Hannah married a fellow camera operator, Norman Warwick, in late 1972 and they had a son named Ben, together. She returned to work in 1974, after taking a year off. Hannah appeared in the popular period drama Upstairs-Downstairs (1974-75) as Virginia Hamilton.
Her next acclaimed serial came in the form of Telford’s Change (1979), where she played the role of the protagonist’s daughter. After acting in some not so popular serials in the 1980s, she starred in critically acclaimed BBC sitcom Joint Account (1989-90), starring with Peter Egan and John Bird. She voiced Hyzenthlay in 1978 animated movie Watership Down. Her most important role in films is Academy-award winning The Elephant Man (1980), playing Anthony Hopkins’s wife. She is also popular as Kevin McKidd’s mother in 2008 sleeper-hit Made of Honour.
In 2000, Hannah appeared in the final episode of the cult sitcom One Foot in the Grave. Hannah hosted the program Watercolour Challenge on Channel 4 from 1998 to 2001. She also made guest appearances in various TV shows, including Monarch of the Glen (2002), River City (2007), Heartbeat (2004), Hustle (2011) and Midsomer Murders (2000). Hannah recently appeared in 2015 crime drama series Unforgotten. Hannah is best known in the fields of theatre as a narrator. She narrated Sergei Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf at St. James Church, Piccadilly and The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny at Usher Hall. She read Nina Bowden’s Family Money for BBC Radio 4 from 9-20 March 2009.
