Jerry Orbach was a famous 20th-century American actor and singer. He is known for his extraordinary work on stage both on and off-Broadway. He acted in many films   as a supporting actor and also landed a starring role in a famous NBC crime drama Law and Order.
He began to learn to act in speech class at his high school in Illinois. His parents did not object his decision of taking up acting, as they were familiar with performing arts. City in 1955 to take up as well as study acting in Actor’s Studio where he got the opportunity to be instructed by the studio’s founder, Lee Strasberg himself.
Initializing his career on the stage in the city of New York, he performed roles like that of El Gallo in an off-Broadway show The Fantasticks and came to be the first one to sing Try to Remember. Likewise, he played Billy Flynn in the Chicago and also Julian Marsh in the 42nd Street. Going forward in his career, he played supporting roles in movies such as Prince of the City (1981), Dirty Dancing1987), Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989) and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (1991) , He also made regular appearances as a guest on television. However, the role that earned Jerry global popularity was playing NYPD Detective Lennie Briscoe in the NBC TV series Law and Order.
Jerry Orbach received numerous Tony Awards and nominations for his work. He is also a member of the American Theatre Hall of Fame. He was given the title "Living Landmark" by the New York Landmarks Conservancy in 2002. He was also honoured with a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series for his longtime role in Law & Order posthumously on February 5th, 2005.His career of 49 years ended with his death in 2004 due to prostate cancer.
