Robert Pickering Burnham, commonly known as Bo Burnham is an American actor, vocalist, poet, screenwriter, and director. He was born on August 21, 1990, to Scott and Patricia Burnham. He was born and raised in Hamilton, Massachusetts. He completed his secondary education from St. John's Preparatory School.
He always had a knack for singing and comedy, so he quit college to become a full-time comic. One can assume that his career began at the age of three when he would perform skits at his home. Bo like hundreds of other millennials was an introvert who wanted to express his feelings but didn't know how.
So, he made what he likes to call musical comedy, both a means to express himself, and his profession. In 2006, Bo performed two songs and posted it on YouTube. He became an overnight singing sensation. He kept on writing and releasing songs about teenage malaise.
His fan following was incredible. The themes of his songs are so modern and relatable that every teenager who listens to his songs falls in love with him. The subject of his musical comedy majorly focuses on pain, loneliness, homosexuality, race, sex, and more.
In 2008, Bo, represented by Douglas Edley recorded a song in London for Comedy Central's, "The World Stands Up." In the same year, Burnham signed a contract with Comedy Central which released his first short album, which was titled, "Bo Fo Sho." On March 10, 2009, "Bo Burnham," Burnham's first full album was released.
In 2010, he released another album titled, "Words Words Words." In the same year, Bo wrote, co-produced, and starred in a series titled, "Zach Stone is Gonna be Famous." He winded up one of the most popular rappers, comedian of the time.
Bo has performed in New York, Montreal, San Francisco, and London. His talent, novelty, and innocence made him an international star. But, before achieving great success, he had trouble dealing with anxiety and panic attacks.
In fact, he had a panic attack while performing in Edinburgh in front of a huge audience. Afterward, he couldn't perform on stage for a long time. But, he overcame all his fears and continued his journey towards success. In 2016, Netflix released Burnham's stand-up-comedy routine titled, "Make Happy."
Bo Burnham debuted as a screenwriter and director with "Eighth Grade." The film opened at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2018. The film was Burnham's attempt to focus on themes which fascinated him, without making himself the subject of the story.
The movie focuses on the life of teenage children through Kayla, an Eighth grader who is simultaneously common, and special in her ways.
