Wes Craven

Wes Craven known as Wesley Earl was an American writer, director, actor and producer born on August 2, 1939 – August 30, 2015, known for his work in many slasher films in the genre of horror. Craven was also known by the name ‘Master of Horror’ because of his successful cultural impact of his work in the genre of horror. The franchise of A Nightmare on Elm Street was created by Craven featuring Freddy Krueger. All of the four films in the Scream Series were directed by Craven. He has directed many other films also. He was born to Paul Eugene Craven and Caroline in Cleveland, Ohio. He got his undergraduate degree from Wheaton College situated in Illinois, in english and psychology and master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University in philosophy and writing.

During this time he began making short movies from a used 16mm camera. His first job was as a creative sound editor in the film industry for Chapin's firm. Craven then became the assistant manager of the firm and entered into the field of film editing in 1971. Then he entered into the pornographic industry as a film director and directed many films like Inside Deep Throat, etc. He directed his first feature film named The Last House on the Left released in 1972. Craven won many awards and also got nominated many times.

Some of the awards won by him are The Saturn Award, Critic Award at Sitges Film Festival in 1977, Grand Prize for Scream in 1977, Lifetime Achievement Award at New York City Horror Film Festival. The logo of Halloween 2008 was designed by Craven for Google and took over the YouTube homepage on Halloween and became the second celebrity personality to do so. Craven married to Bonnie Broecker (his first wife) and had two children: Jessica Craven born on 1968 and Jonathan Cravenborn on 1965. Jonathan is a director and writer while Jessica is a songwriter and singer. Craven divorced his wife in 1970. Craven married to Mimi who became popular professionally as an actress. They later divorced each other due to some issues between them, in 1982. Craven then married Iya Labunka who frequently produced his films, in 2004. Four Weeks after his 76th birthday, Craven died at his home because of brain cancer in Los Angeles on August 30, 2015.
