Susanne Bier took birth on April 15, 1960. By profession, she is a film director, producer, and writer (Danish). Her birth pace is Copenhagen in Denmark. She is the first and only female director who has won various international honors like an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe, an Academy Award, and most importantly the European Film Award.
She studied art at “Bezalel Academy of Art and Design” located in Jerusalem and architecture in London from “Architectural Association School and Architecture” and then learned film direction at “National Film School of Denmark.” Her graduation film was “De Saliges” in the year 1987. At Munich film school Festival, it won the first prize and the official distribution was done by “Channel Four.” She lives with theater composer and producer Jesper Winge Leisner, and the couple has two children Alice Esther (1995) and Gabriel (1989). After the success of her graduation film, her successive ventures like “Freud leaving home,” “Family Matters,” “Like it was Never Before” were also quite successful. In the year 1999, her film “The One and Only,” which was a romantic comedy was a huge success, and it won many local Danish Film Academy Awards. From that time onwards, Paprika Steen and Bier became quite good friends. Till now, no movie has been able to beat its popularity in Denmark. She won the Oscar award for the movie “In the Better World” for the category of “Best Foreign Language.” Her first American Film was “Things We Lost In Fire” (2008). Mostly she works for the genre of tragedy, pain, and atonement. She has also worked for various commercials, music videos, and short films. She is a person having quite a different reputation as compared to most of the people in the industry. She is well known and critically acclaimed for making such feature films that are quite appealing to the international market. The T.V. series named “The Night Manager” (2016) directed by her and produced by AMC and BBC was well received worldwide from its launch. It got 12 nominations for “Primetime Emmy Awards,” and out of them, Sussane won one of them for her direction. Then after that, it got four nominations for “Golden Globe Awards” out of which, it won three.
