Ming-Na Wen is an American actress. She was born on November 20, 1963 at Coloane, Portuguese Macau. She moved to Hong Kong with her mother and brother and later transferred to Harlem,
New York
in U.S. Later, they moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from where she studied high school. Ming-Na Wen initially works on her stepdad’s restaurant, Chinatown Inn in Pittsburgh. She graduated at Carnegie Mellon University and finished Bachelor of fine Arts in Drama.Â
In 1985, she made her first television appearance in the children’s series, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. Then she bagged the role of Lien Hughes in the television soap, As the World Turns from year 1988 to 1991. In 1993, she played the role of June Woo in the box-office hit film, The Joy Luck. Later, she acted in the very popular medical drama series, ER as Dr. Jing-Mei Chen. She first appeared in the series in year 1994-1995 and made a recurring role in 1999 as a regular in the series. The actress also essayed the character of Chun-Li in the 1994 film, Street Fighter and later, she was co-starred in the television sitcom, The Single Guy.
Ming-Na also voiced the lead character in the animated musical film, Mulan in 1998 and its sequel, Mulan II in 2004. She voiced the character of Aki Ross in the animated science fiction film, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within and character of Ellen Yin in the animated television series,
The Batman
. Ming-Na is also the voice behind the character of Jade in the Todd McFarlane’s animated series, Spawn.Â
In year 2004, she won in Hollywood’s World Poker Tour. A year later, she was starred in the medical drama primetime series, Inconceivable as Rachel Lu. But the series was canceled after airing two episodes. She played as Lin Mei in the serial drama series, Vanished in 2006. However, the series was also canceled after three months of airing. She bagged the role of a college professor on ABC’s
George Lopez
. Ming-Na played as the love interest of Charlie Harper (played by
Charlie Sheen
) in four episodes of the popular sitcom, Two and a Half Men in 2007. In 2008, she made a guest-star appearance on the television series, Private Practice and the legal drama series, Boston Legal.
The actress was cast as Camile Wray in the Canadian-American series, Stargate Universe from 2009 to 2011. She also appeared in the documentary of Walt Disney Company, ‘Disney Through the Decades’. In 2011, she donned the role of a U.S. Senator in the science fiction television series, Eureka. She also essayed the role of Melinda May, an agent in the television series, ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ in 2013. She reprised her character as Mulan in Disney’s Sofia the First.Â
Ming-Na Wen got married to Kirk Aanes in 1990. They had a divorce in year 1993 then in 1995, she remarries Eric Michael Zee. The couple have two children namely, Michaela and Cooper Dominic Zee.
