David Richard Ellis was a famous American director who was born to Richard and Andrea Ellis in Santa Monica, California. He was raised in Los Angeles, California where he developed a passion for surfing and also went on to become a top-ranked junior pro surfer. Ellis started his film career in the year 1974 as a child actor in Kurt Russell-Disney film ‘The Strongest Man in the World’. Apart from being recognized as a director, Ellis was also well-known for his stunts. After his debut in the Disney films, Ellis switched to the stunt world which was his first passion.

After a few years, he was promoted to be the stunt coordinator in 1978. Ellis did an amazing work as a stunt coordinator in movies like Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Fatal Attraction (1987), Misery (1990), and Patriot Games (1992) and also for the 1990s television series Baywatch. All these outstanding performances that he delivered during this period as a stunt coordinator got him the position of second unit director in the year 1986. In one of his interviews he mentioned about his love for the second unit direction as he learned so much and also got to work with some great directors.
