Benjamin Charles EltonĀ (born 3 May 1959) is an English Comedian, TV writer, entertainer, writer, dramatist, TV director, screenwriter, movie director, lyricist, stage director, and TV director. He was a part ofĀ the sitcomsĀ The Young OnesĀ andĀ Blackadder. He has penned 17 books. The Beautiful GameĀ (2000),Ā We Will Rock YouĀ (2002),Ā Tonight's the NightĀ (2003), andĀ Love Never DiesĀ (2010), the continuation toĀ The Phantom of the Opera. His books cover theĀ dystopian, parody, andĀ crimeĀ genres.Ā
Elton was born on 3 May 1959 atĀ University College HospitalĀ inĀ Fitzrovia, London asthe child of Mary, an English instructor fromĀ Cheshire, and physicist and instructive specialist ProfessorĀ Lewis Elton. He is a nephew of the historianĀ Sir Geoffrey EltonĀ and a third cousin of singerĀ Olivia Newton-John.Ā Elton's dad is from aĀ German-JewishĀ family and Elton's mom, who was brought up in theĀ Church of England, is of English background.
Elton grew up inĀ Catford,Ā south London, before moving with his family toĀ Guildford, Surrey, in 1968, where heĀ involved inĀ amateur drama groups.Ā His first TV appearance was a stand-up presentation on the BBC1,Ā Oxford Road Show. At 23, he came as co-writer of the TV sitcomĀ The Young Ones.Ā
In 1985, Elton created his first performance script for the BBC with his satire show, Happy Families, starringĀ Jennifer SaundersĀ andĀ Adrian Edmondson. Elton appeared in the series too.
