Michael Shanks

Michael Shanks is a Canadian writer, an actor and a director. His real name is Michael Garrett Shanks. He was born on December 15, in the year 1970, in Vancouver, and grew up in Kamloops, British Columbia. He has attended the University of British Columbia, and after completing the BFA acting Program from 1990 to 1994, later he appeared in several stage productions, serving a two-year apprenticeship with the prestigious Stratford Festival in Ontario. He has been working since 1993 and still actively working in this industry. He came to fame after playing the character Daniel Jackson in the longest-running Canadian American military science television fiction series ‘Stargate SG-1’ and as Charles Harris on the Canadian medical drama ‘Saving Hope’.

He played archaeologist, Dr. Daniel Jackson, throughout the five seasons of ‘Stargate SG-1’. He played several guest appearances in the sixth season of the show in his character, as well as voicing the Asgard character Thor. Shank has an elder daughter named Tatiana Shanks, who is from his relationship with model and an actress Vaitaire Bandera, who portrayed Sha’re, his character’s wife on ‘Stargate SG-1’. In the year 2003, on August 2, Shanks got married to Lexa Doig, with whom he met in 2001 while guest-starring on the series ‘Andromeda’ and have two children. He loves playing ice hockey and was once considered professionally. 

He was in the hockey team named Stargate SG-1, competing against the teams of other Vancouver based productions named Smallville. He also displayed his aptitude for the sport in the 2006 television film “Under the Mistletoe,” in which he played the part of a hockey coach. He appeared in both direct to DVD Stargate films released in 2008, ‘Stargate: The Ark of Truth’ and ‘Stargate: Continuum’, and won the 2009 Leo Award for Lead Performance by a Male in a feature film drama.  In the year 2007, Shanks joined the Fox Network series 24. In the year 2008-2009, Shanks had a recurring role on the second season of the USA Network spy series ‘ Burn Notice Burn Notice is an American series by Matt Nix. The >> Read More... ’. Shank’s latest television guest roles were archaeologist Carter Hall, DC Comics’ superhero Hawkman, in the Smallville episode “Absolute Justice.” He has also starred in Fox Comedy, ‘The Good Guys’, as the pompous leader of the Strike Force. In 2011, he was a star guest in the third episode of the Showcase show named ‘Endgame’, where he plays an amnesiac.
