Ballard Berkeley was born toJoseph and Beatrice Blascheck(6 August 1904) in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent. He was majorly known for his work as a special constable with the Metropolitan Police during World War 2. For hisservice, he was awarded with the Defence Medal and the Special Constabulary Long Service Medal.He made his debut in the stage performances in the year 1928, although there are no recordings of that. Even then, we can find his work as a well-known English actor from the year 1930, when he acted in a classic movie named “The Chinese Bungalow.” He then portrayed many roles in a wide range of movies, but he was known as a professional for an army general or a retired army officer.

Berkeley was also well-known for his major Gowen in the English sit com Fawlty Towers(1975-1979. He played a similar role in 1969 in the legal drama The Main Chance. He portrayed as a retired military Colonel (Colonel Freddie Danby) in The Archers. He played a starring role in Fresh Fields as Hester’s father Guy was Hartley into the Major Born, and played Colonel Culpepper in Terry and June. He had acted in an episode of Citizen Smith (1977) and an adaptation of Little Lord Fauntleroy (1980) And performed one time in Bless This House as a guest role (an RAF Group Captain) and in The New Avengers as Colonel Foster. He also had roles in the BBC sitcoms Hi-de-Hi! (1983) and Are You Being Served? (1983). He was married to Dorothy Long in the year 1929.
