Jason Segel born to a rich Jewish lawyer, he spent his childhood in a posh locality in Los Angeles. While he was young, he was bullied by his fellows at the Christian elementary school because of his Jewish background although his mother was Christian.

By the time he became a teenager he had become a lanky fellow with his height reaching 6’4”, he had described this period in life as "the weird, gangly kid who was like ET trying to figure out how his limbs worked." As a budding teenager, Segel found interest in puppet and also began making short films.

Later in his life, he explained that puppets were a solution to him for not knowing any actors. He went to the highly influential Harvard- Westlake School. He got into the basketball team because of his height and he made a good use of it.

Later on, during his last years of high school, he developed a liking for the art of acting and was scouted by a film casting executive during a show. Such was his passion for acting that Segel opted out on going to college and wanted to make a career in acting.

The show ran for only one season but by the end of it had a huge sect of followers. The show launched Segel in Tv and film industry. In the meanwhile, he also came up with cameo roles in movies like Dead Man on Campus, SLC Punk and Can’t Hardly Wait.

Jude Apatow and Segel teamed up again for a sitcom named Undeclared, where he played the character of Nick, but, this time, the pair failed to deliver as it could not attract the audience. Segel went through a slump period in his life where he failed to deliver with his performances in movies and sitcoms such as Harry Green and Eugene, Alias, Certainly Not a Fairytale and The Good Humour Man.

His career took a giant step when he signed up for CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother, where he played the character of loving and funny Marshall Eriksen, which aired in 2005. The show revolved around five friends how they used to live around together sharing every joy and sorrow together; this show gave Jason’s career a much-needed boost. Following the sensational success of How I Met Your Mother, Segel got the opportunity to work on his film assignment.

The movie gave a much-needed push to his film life. During 2009, while working on the sets of How I Met Your Mother, Segel was also involved in various other projects. He gave a voice over for the villain in the blockbuster animated film Despicable Me, in the same year he was also involved as a co-actor in I Love You, Man and Gulliver’s Travel.

In 2010, he presided over a wedding ceremony, while he was starring on The Tonight Show, as he is an ordained minister with Universal Life Church. During the same year, he came up with his first novel in the series by the name of Nightmares. The other parts are supposed to come in the coming years. Segel dated Linda Cardellini his co-star from the TV show Geeks and Freaks for Six years from the period of 2001 till 2007 before they broke up. Segel always considered her as a great girlfriend and tried to rebuff any speculations about the female lead character in Story of Forgetting Sarah Marshall was based on his experience with Linda. Segel went through the problem of alcoholism during his career but has been normal since 2013.
