Chris Noth

Chris Noth is an American actor who is best known for his roles as an NYPD Detective Mike Logan in the television series, Law & Order and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Another important role played by him was the enigmatic Mr. Big on the show Sex and the City, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. At present, he stars in the legal drama series The Good Wife. For this role too, he was nominated for a Golden Globe. Born as Christopher David Noth in Madison, Wisconsin, he was one of the three sons of Jeanne L. Parr, who was a former WCBS weather reporter and Charles James Noth, who sold insurance and was an executive in marketing. He has German and Irish ancestry and has spent a lot of his childhood years traveling with his mother and brothers throughout Spain, Czechoslovakia and the United Kingdom. Noth did his undergraduate studies at Marlboro College and got his MFA from Yale School of Drama. He was a pupil of Sanford Meisner, who was his acting coach, and he acted in around 25 plays during his time at Yale.

Noth started out by playing minor roles in movies like Smithereens (1982) and Baby Boom (1987). He later was cast in Hill Street Blues in its sixth season in 1986. He slowly started to gain recognition from both critics and fans when the show Law & Order was broadcast on NBC in 1990. However due to some differences between him and the show’s creator Dick Wolf, Noth got fired from the show in 1995. Noth’s next major role was that of Mr. Big on HBO’s Sex and the City. His role was that of Carrie Bradshaw’s boyfriend, and he played it for six years. During this period, he also appeared in a small role in the movie Cast Away (2000) and starred in a Broadway revival of The Best Man. In 2005, Noth reprised his role of Detective Mike Logan in the spin-off series Law & Order: Criminal Intent in its fifth season. He appeared in the Sex and the City movie and its 2010 sequel as well, playing the role of Mr. Big. As of now, he stars with Julianna Marguiles in the legal drama series The Good Wife which CBS first aired in 2009. Noth became the spokesperson for a line of male skincare products called Biotherm for the North American market. He also made an appearance in the theater festival Plaza Del Sol, which took place in Napa Valley, California in 2013.
