20th Life Ok Screen Awards took place on 14 January at Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai. It was telecasted on 25 January on Life OK. The jury for the awards included Shreyas Talpade, Sonali Kulkarni, Moushumi Chatterji, Homi Adajania, Atul Agnihotri, Sukanya Kulkarni, Rahul Dholakia, Prosenjit, Umesh Shukla, Sriram Raghavan, John Matthew Matthan, and Govind Nihalani. The awards ceremony is held to celebrate the achievement of Hindi and Marathi Cinema.

Shahrukh Khan was the main host for the awards night. Varun Dhawan, one of the hosts, made his entry on a time machine which was suspended mid-air. He jumped from over a 60 ft height to the time machine without any harness and then mimicked some legendary dialogues from Bollywood films whenever the clock pointed to some particular year in order to celebrate 100 years of cinema. He was joined by Fukrey fame, Richa Chadda. Shahid Kapoor gave a rocking performance on his hit songs of 2013. Sonu Sood’s performance was an action-packed one in which he made a daring entry on a bike. Ranveer Singh paid tribute to the famous actor known as the king of comedy, Govinda. He donned his complete look changed three costumes in between the performance and danced on Govinda’s hit numbers while copying some of his famous dance moves. He made an entry on a cruise bike while lying back on it with a colorful umbrella over the head. He was also one of the hosts for the night. Yo Yo Honey Singh also performed.

The showstopper of the night was Deepika Padukone’s performance when she climbed on a wide Nagada which was hoisted above the ground about 60 ft with fireworks ending her act. She started her act with Nagada sang dhol on the top of a Manganiyar Seduction- esque prop. Abhay Deol protested against the delay in his film’s music release when he came on stage to present an award. Kalki Koechlin and Huma Qureshi stopped all the news about them by taking a selfie together. Hard Kaur sang the title song of Babloo Happy Hai. Kai Po Che! was the film which had the maximum nominations at the award ceremony with a total of nine nominations. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag became the Best Film, while Best Director award went to Shoojit Sircar for Madras Cafe. Farhan Akhtar bagged the Best Actor award for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, while Deepika Padukone received the Best Actress award for her role of Meenalochini Azhagu in Chennai Express.

Saurabh Shukla became the Best Supporting Actor for Jolly LLB, and Swara Bhaskar became the Best Supporting Actress for Raanjhanaa. Sushant Singh Rajput received the Most Promising Newcomer (Male) award for Kai Po Che!, while Aida El-Kashef received the Most Promising Newcomer (Female) Award for Ship of Theseus. Rishi Kapoor got the Best Performance in a Negative Role award for D-Day, while Best Performance in a Comic Role went to Richa Chadda for Fukrey. Japtej Singh became the Best Child Artiste for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, while Chennai Express became the Best Marketed Film.

Shahrukh Khan bagged the Best Popular Actor for Chennai Express which was presented by Rekha & he convinced her to do a jig with him, while Deepika Padukone received Best Popular Actress award for Chennai Express and Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. Mohan Sikka won the Best Story award for B.A. Pass, while Apurva Asrani, Hansal Mehta, & Sameer Gautam Singh received the Best Screenplay award for Shahid. Sameer Gautam Singh also got Best Dialogue award for Shahid. S. Ravi Varman won the Best Cinematography award for Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, while Best Editing award was received by Deepa Bhatia for Kai Po Che!

Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela also got Best Costume Design ( Maxima Basu and Anju Modi), and Best Production Design ( Wasiq Khan) awards. Red Chillies Entertainment received Best Visual Effects Award for Krrish 3, while Best Action went to Manohar Verma for Madras Cafe. Pritam became the Best Music Director for Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, while Best Lyricist award went to Swanand Kirkire for the song ‘ Manja’ from Kai Po Che! Arijit Singh bagged the Best Male Playback Award for the song ‘Tum Hi Ho’ from Aashiqui 2, while Best Female Playback was received by talented Shreya Ghoshal for the song ‘Sunn Raha Hai’ from Aashiqui 2. Shankar Ehsaan Loy received the Best Background Music award for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, while Best Music award went to Pritam Chakrabarty for Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.

Remo D’Souza won the Best Choreography for the song ‘ Badtameez Dil’ from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Amitabh Bachchan was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award which was presented by Shatrughan Sinha & Vidhu Vinod Chopra, while Deepika Padukone was honored with Life OK Screen Hero Award. Shahrukh Khan even touched the feet of Amitabh Bachchan when he came to receive the award, and Shatrughan Sinha praised Amitabh. He also received a standing applause from everyone. Ship of Theseus got the Special Jury Award for Best Film, while Ramnath Goenka Memorial Award went to Madras Cafe. Club 60 received an award for Best Ensemble Star Cast.

Ronnie Screwvala was showered with respect and honor for his Outstanding Contribution to Indian Cinema which was presented by Karan Johar. Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur became the Life OK Screen Jodi of the Year for Aashiqui 2. Now coming to Marathi Film Industry, Balak Palak and Duniyadari became the Best Film. Ravi Jadhav received the Best Director award for Balak Palak. Sachin Khedekar for Pitruroon & Aacha Divas Majha and Tanuja for Pitruroon bagged Best Actor and Best Actress award respectively. Tanuja was presented the award by her daughter, Kajol. Prathamesh Parab won the Most Promising Newcomer (Male) award for Balak Palak, while Most Promising Newcomer (Female) award went to Shriya Pilgaonkar for Ekul Ti Ek.
