Plot
When Indira was made the prime minister of India, many felt that she didn’t deserve to lead the country. But, her rise after emergency proved her worth. However, she made some wrong decisions due to her favourite son, SanjayGandhi, who appeared to be a power-hungry man. The rest of the plot shows how Indira Gandhi managed all the odds and emerged as a successful politician.
Star Performance
Kangana excelled in scenes where she had to emote uniquely. The expressions when she was confused were brilliantly showcased. Also, in emotional scenes, she did a good job. Kangana should really be appreciated for having followed Indira’s mannerisms. We can say that this is one of her career best performances. Satish and Anupam Kher did what were required of them. Mahima Chaudhary and Shreyas Talpade fit well in their roles and provided a good output.
Analysis
The writing is just okay, but should’ve been better in a few places. Kangana aced well as a director. But, she should’ve concentrated well in certain scenes, which appear to be stretchy. Though the film is engaging, it is not carried throughout. Besides showing Indira Gandhi’s ups and downs, the film focuses on SanjayGandhi’s character. He was the one who impacted many decisions Indira made. The film showcases the life of Indira, before and after the death of Sanjay. Kangana appears well in her prosthetic makeup. The team has done a lot of research work about Indira’s reign and executed well. GV Prakash’s songs are good and the BGM by Balhara brothers elevates many scenes.
