Rahul Dholakia, born in Mumbai, is a Bollywood director, screenplay writer, and producer. His parents are Raksha and Parry Dholakia, and he also has an ender sibling, Moha. He completed his schooling in Mumbai from Champion school and Jamnabai Narsee School. He pursued his degree in Bachelor of Science in Mumbai from St. Xavier’s College. He did his Masters from New York Institute of technology in Filmmaking.

He is well known for his movies like Parzania for which he was acknowledged as the best director by National Film Awards. He worked with his father in his advertising agency ‘Mora Ava’. He later worked as an assistant in Everest Advertising and as an assistant producer for Channel 4, London. He has made several documentaries, commercials and started the TV channel ‘TV Asia’. He debuted in 2002 as a director in Bollywood with ‘Kehtaa Hai Dil Baar Baar’ which was completely shot in America starring Paresh Rawal and Jimmy shergil. The next movie he wrote, directed and produces was the movie that brought him National Award ’Parzania’ which was a story revolved around a boy of 10 years of age, Parzaan.

It was a movie based on the communal riots in Gujarat in 2002. He then worked in a movie called ‘Mumbai Cutting’ and later released ‘ Lamhaa’, a movie starring Bipasha Basu and Sanjay Dutt whose story was picturised in Kashmir. He is presently working on a movie called ‘ Raees’ starring Shah Rukh Khan which is expected to b released in 2016 during Eid.

Rahul Rawail is the son of veteran film director H.S Rawail and is a well known Bollywood director too. His direction includes some of the famous movies like ‘Betaab’, ‘Anjaam’, and ‘Love Story’ (1981), in which he has launched Bollywood actors like Kumar Gaurav, Vijeta Pandit, Kajol, Sunny Deol and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. His father gave the Bollywood industry some of the best hits of that time. He directed movies like Mere Mehboob, Sunghursh (1968), Mehboob Ki Mehendi, Laila Majnu. Rahul’s son Bharat is an upcoming director too. The first movie directed by Rawail was Gunehgaar, starring Parveen Babi, Rishi Kapoor, Rajendra Kumar and Asha Parek. The film that gave him immense success was Kumar Gaurav and Vijeta Pandit starrer movie ‘Love Story’ (1981). Rawail has worked with Sunny Deol for six films which included Deol’s debut movie as well. He later collaborated with Stella Adler Studio of Acting, New York, which was shut down after a span of 2 years. Rawail has been in several controversies. Once, when Imran Khan, in an interview in Mumbai had said “Is Rahul Rawail still around?” for which in return Rawail tweeted and called Imran “mentally challenged”. Another controversy about him is that he and his son has been alleged by his neighbor, Thiya. She alleges that he trespassed into her apartment and insulted and abused her with vulgar language for throwing the garbage near her window and also called her character-less for nursing the street dogs. Rawail’s name has been registered under section 452 IPC trespassing, 569 IPC act intended to insult the modesty of the women and 504 IPC intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace.
