The Unique Case Of Madgaon Express & Swatantrya Veer Savarkar

The second quarter of 2024 has started on a disastrous note for Bollywood. Others like ‘Do aur Do Pyaar’, ‘LSD 2’ could not even earn 2 crores in the opening weekend.

However, as they say, every cloud has a silver lining. Despite limited screens, two movies have managed to not only impress the audience, but also complete one whole month at the box office.

These are ‘Madgaon Express’ and ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’. Both movies had themes which were poles apart. Both catered to entirely different audiences, and both had limited scope for success.

Yet, both the movies managed to recover their costs, as well as make a mark for themselves amongst the audience. While ‘Madgaon Express’ managed to earn some 41 crores, including 32 crores from domestic collections, ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’ managed to earn 33 crores worldwide, including 24 crores from net domestic collections.

Yes, these are not very good numbers from a commercial perspective. But given the cold reception of the audience, bringing out more than 20 crores, with less than 3000 screens overall is not a joke either!
