There is no doubt that the " Vijay" starrer Theri is the most anticipated movie of this year. It is produced with a whopping budget by Kalaipuli S Thanu. Now let’s just quickly go through the review of the movie so that we can have an understanding of the film.

Plot

Vijay is employed as a baker and is staying with his daughter Baby Nainika in Kerala. He is a doting dad and the bond shared between the two is adorable. But there should be a twist to the film right? Vijay is hiding some important past (he was a cop before) and this is found out by Amy Jackson, who is a teacher. Why is Vijay hiding his past? Why has he left the job of a cop? Watch the movie to unravel these questions.

Star Performances

Vijay is seen in a different makeover in this film, and the verdict is that he emerges victorious. Generally, Vijay has a good appeal with children and in this film too he will attract the children. The strength of Vijay is comedy and dance and in this film too he gives his best shot in these two departments. Also, he has a magnetic screen presence. It is learned that Vijay has performed the stunts in the movie without seeking the help of body double. And we should say that his efforts have borne fruits. The variations shown by Vijay for his different getups are commendable.

"Samantha Ruth Prabhu" looks gorgeous and has a good role to play in the movie. Amy Jackson is at her stylish best and leaves an impression with her commendable performance even in her brief role.

Radhika Sarathkumar has given a seasoned performance. Seasoned filmmaker Mahendran debuts with Their as an actor, and he has given an outstanding performance as an intimidating baddie. Baby Nainika (actress Meena’s daughter) has done a great job, and it is a perfect launchpad for her; she is expressive, spontaneous, and looks cute. Rajendran does his part well in comedy; his dialogues are hilarious.

Analysis

There is Vijay’s 59th flick, and it is directed by Raja Rani fame Atlee Kumar. Being an action flick it tries to convey a relevant message. What is the message? Well, our children are the future generation, and their foundation should be strong. The safeguarding of women is also emphasized in the movie.

The movie has all the commercial elements that are required for being a success. Atlee has taken care to weave the film with utmost astuteness; he has balanced the action and sentiments really well. He has seen to it that he has utilized the prowess of Vijay to the fullest degree. Also, he has understood the pulse of Vijay’s fans.

What’s there?

  • Vijay’s dialogue delivery in Malayalam is outstanding.
  • The bond between Vijay and Baby Nainika is showcased well.
  • The action sequences will keep you hooked to the seat.  
  • The chemistry between Vijay and Samantha is commendable.
  • Music by G V Prakash (this is his 50th endeavor as a music director) is remarkable, and the songs are already rocking. The youngsters will surely enjoy the songs especially En Jeevan, Chella Kutti, and Jithu Jilladi .BGM by Prakash is also simply superb. 
  • The songs are intelligently blended with the story. 
  • Cinematography by George C Williams is one of the highlights of the movie. 
  • Ruben’s editing is spot-on. 

What’s not there?

  • The first half is quite dragging. However, it doesn't test your patience. 
  • Most of the films nowadays are on the predictable lines, but the way that they are being executed makes the difference. Theri is also one film that gets caught in the web of being predictable but ultimately the execution compensates for it. 


Verdict

Theri- Time-tested story which is laced with astute execution that makes the film a winner. Vijay has also done full justice to his characters.
