Kali Venkat hails from a rural village named Kovilpatti in Tamil Nadu from where he came to Chennai to pursue his acting career. From childhood, he had a huge passion and interest for acting, He used to take part in lots of dramas hosted in his school and his locality since he was studying in the eighth standard. Realizing that his village would limit his acting career to the stage and the drama medium alone, He moves to Chennai for further opportunities.
However, upon his arrival, He is unaware of the means to get into the film industry and engages himself in odd jobs such as selling tea and groceries to survive. Luck favours him as he meets the film director Vijay Prabhakaran who readily casts him in the film ‘Thasaiyinai Thee Sudinum'.Though the film could not be released, Venkat is grateful for that opportunity as it provided him with the much-needed exposure in the field.
It was after the shooting of this film that he changed his name to ‘Kali Venkat’, Kali being the name of the character that he plays in the film. He decides to act in short films and becomes a frequent feature in the ‘Kalaignar’ Channel in a T.V show called ‘Naalaya Iyakunar'. His excellent performance as an actor helped him in achieving the best actor award in the third season of the show.
His decisions to act in short films was not for vain since it provided as a portfolio for directors who later cast him in their films. ‘Kalakalappu’, ‘
’ are films which he got the opportunity to act in due to his performance in short films. In the film ‘Mundaasupatti’, Kaali proves his versatility and resourcefulness as an actor by playing a character who speaks the Tamil dialect used in the Coimbatore region.
This was a considerably tough task for him to do due to his lack of exposure of various cultures owing to his rural background. Kali Venkat has been roped in for various films of which few are in their filming stages such as ‘Kaathadi’ and ‘Iruthi Sutru’
