Dhanush and Selvaraj had previously worked together on Karnan, which was a political action drama. Despite being released around the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the film was a resounding commercial success, earning nearly 68 crores on a budget of 25 crores.

Mari Selvaraj had previously struck gold last year with Vaazhai, which was a children’s drama. Made on a shoestring budget of 5 crores, the movie withstood multiple biggies like Pa Ranjith’s Thangalaan to earn a lifetime total of nearly 36 crores worldwide, becoming one of the rare few Tamil movies in 2024 to have officially succeeded at the box office.

Dhanush is currently busy with multiple projects like Idly Kadai, Kuberaa, Tere Ishk Mein. He is also working on Ilaiyaraaja, where he will essay the journey of the music composer, who is now regarded as one of the greatest Indian artists of all time.
