Plot
Rajma Chawal revolves around the father-son relationship between Raj and Kabir. The father and son used to live in Delhi with Kabir’s mother but Raj decided that they should move out after his wife passed away due to an accident. The father-son duo moved out of New Delhi to live in their old home in Chandni Chowk, Old Delhi. Kabir resents his father for this decision as he was made to leave his band, his friends and the house that holds memories of his late mother. This resentment worsens the relationship between the two, and they get into frequent quarrels. Kabir distances himself from Raj, and he is disturbed by his son’s lack of communication. He tries to reach out to his son through Facebook but Kabir blocks him. Raj’s friends then suggest that he try communicating with his son through a disguise. Raj takes their advice and disguises himself as a girl named “
Tara

” by creating a fake Facebook profile using the picture of a pretty girl. Through this, he starts chatting with his son. Tara’a real-life persona is a girl named Seher, who works at a salon. Seher is in an abusive relationship with a boyfriend whom she has run away from several times, only to go back to him again in need of money to support herself. Through Seher, Raj makes Kabir see his father’s side as well. Kabir realises that his dad is also suffering from the loss of his wife. Later in the film Sahir and Kabir meet and get into a relationship and Raj eventually approves of it.
Star Performance
Rishi Kapoor performs his role as the father of Kabir excellently.
Amyra Dastur has also acted well, and her personality is more attractive than the protagonist’s.
Analysis
The start of the film is very cliche as it is about a man from the older generation trying to understand the meanings of terms that the youth use, and of a young brooding boy from the younger generation who has the typical teen attitude where he wants to be left alone to his own devices. However, this familiarity of the plot disappears as the story progresses. The movie also teaches us about the importance of community despite its diversity. The film’s weakness is the lack of character development of characters like Raj’s friends. Kabir’s personality itself seems bland and uninteresting. The cast members have all given their best.

The film has a few minor flaws but it is pretty alright. It is an entertaining film so people who are looking for entertainment should go ahead and watch it.
