Mohit Chauhan is a Bollywood playback singer. He was born on March 11, 1966 at Nahan, Himachal Pradesh, India. He was also a previous front-man of the band, Silk Route. Mohit is fluent in Pahari, Hindi and English languages. He went to St. Xavier’s School in Delhi and then he came to Himachal Pradesh to finish his studies. He graduated college with a Master of Science in Geology at Dharamsala College.
Mohit doesn’t have any formal training in the field of music, but he sings well and he can play harmonica, flute and guitar. After graduating, he formed the Silk Route band in 1996. The band’s genre is Indian pop songs and they released their albums Boondein in 1998 and Pehchan. Silk Route’s Dooba Dooba was a success and the band received various awards in 1998. Later, Silk Route was disbanded. He made a comeback in 2005 with his song, Guncha from the film, Main, Meri Patni Aur Woh. Indian composer and song writer, A. R. Rahman was impressed by his singing talent, so he was bagged in to sing for the Indian drama film,
Rang De Basanti
. In 2007, music director,
asked him for the romantic comedy film, Jab We Met’s song, Tum Se Hi. He also sang the chartbusters, Tu Ne Jo Na Kaha for the Bollywood thriller film,
, Pehli Baar Mohabbat Ki Hai for the thriller film, Kaminey and Ye Dooriyan for the romantic drama film, Love Aaj Kal.
Mohit won many awards including the two-time Filmfare Award for the Best Male Playback Singer category. Besides being a film playback singer, he also did several ad jingles for Alpenliebe, Wheel, Nescafe, Vicks Vapor Rub, Parachute and more products. He was also the one who sang the theme for the 2011 Star Parivaar Awards.
In 2007, he joined the musical reality show, Mission Ustaad together with
on Hindi channel, 9X. He also joined Music Ka Maha Muqqabla on STAR Plus. Mohit is also performing in several college festivals in India such as Sparsh 2008 and more. In 2011, he was also part of the MTV India’s The Dewarists (3rd Episode) along with the
band for the song, Maaya. He also sang Jad Se Judein for L’Oreal Paris India ad.
His Bollywood career started in year 2002 through the song, Pehli Nazar Mein Dari Thi from the horror film, Road. Some of his successful songs are Khoon Chala, Masakali and Tum Se Hi became very successful.
