1. Kaadhal

Kaadhal is a movie based on true events featuring Bharath and Sandhya in lead roles. Their acting skills and the innocence of the script played a major role in making this movie a superhit. The story revolves around a simple mechanic, Bharath who unknowingly charms a rich girl, Shandhya.

2. Roja

Roja is the movie that depicts love at war. The story is about Roja (played by Madhoo) who run from pillars to posts in order to rescue to his new-wed husband from the captivity of terrorist group. The group keeps him with them to negotiate with the government in exchange of the heir leader. On the other hand, Arvind tries to convince the group to end the war and bring back political balance. The story has been well directed and the acting of actors has hit the right chord, depicting the love the couple who do anything and everything possible to unite, which does happen at the end of the story.

3. Mouna Ragam

Ratnam yet again brought another magical experience with his film, Mouna Ragam. The movie shows the vulnerability of a girl, Revathy, who lost her love and is unable to move on. Married shortly after, her husband tries everything to bring back the emotion of love in her, which eventually pays off as Revathy finally gives herself a second chance. It takes some time to move on but she does fall for her husband. A romantic story well portrayed on the silver screen. The movie brought together one of the cutest couples of Kollywood and their romantic sequences in between them definitely got admiration from the love-sick audience.

4. Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya

Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya is a love story between a Hindu Brahmin boy and a Catholic girl. The sad saga on silver screen garnered positive reviews. Starring Trisha Krishnan and Silambarasan in lead roles, the movie managed to stay in the hearts of the audience. Music for the film was given by AR Rahman.

5. Minnale

Directed by Gautham Menon, Minnale deserves to be on the list. Starring Reema Sen, Madhavan and Abbas in leads, the movie depicts the turmoil of a girl who has to choose between the guy she is engaged to and the stalker she falls in love with. The movie is a perfect example of love at first sight incidences. Anxious? Crazy? Smitten? Yes, it indeed raises all. With AR Rahman’s music, the movie collected a lot of money on box office. One of the most memorable romance sequences ever.

6. Alaipayuthe

Masters never leave any scopes for mistakes. And so is Mani Ratnam when it comes to romantic love stories. Alaipayuthe is one of the many classic love stories that he has made. The story revolves around the story of a girl and a boy whose love is against the will of their parents .The couple discovers new difficulties as their love and marriage faces the trial of time. The movie has depicted the basics that are needed in a marriage to get through it happily. AR Rahman’s music in the movie worked as a cherry on the cake as it hit the right chords of the audience.

7. Kadhalukku Mariyadhai

Kadhalukku Mariyadhi is the remake of a Malayalam film Aniathipravu, starring Shalini and Vijay in lead roles. The plot revolves around the controversial subject of religion and caste that often poses a hindrance in love story. The movie has beautifully showcased the love for the family and their personal love story and how it becomes difficult for them to give up on their blood ties to live together. But, as always, love triumphs in the end as the families accept the love, putting behind differences of their religion. The movie received positive critical appreciation at the box office.

8. Raja Rani

The story of Raja Rani revolves around a couple with heartbreaking past and the difficulties they face in moving on after they are tied in matrimony. The movie stars Arya and Nayanthara in lead, with a completely fresh story that indeed, hit the audience instantly. It broke multiple records on box office just after releasing on the silver screen. The direction of Atlee Kumar and the cast’s acting were equally appreciated by the audience.

9. Bombay

Starring Manisha Koirala as Shaila Banu and Arvind Swamy as Shekhar in lead roles, the movie revolves around the difficulties and trials that a couple belonging to different religions go through. Mani Ratnam’s Bombay showcased the demolition of Babri Masjid and how it affected religious riots and killings. And the consequences that the love story faced due to the political influences on the religions. The movie has been beautifully shot and the story depicted had propelled the emotions of the audience.

10. Moondram Pirai

Moondram Pirai, a sensational movie which shook the audience with its heart breaking story and Kamal Haasan and Sridevi’s convincing acting. Sridevi created magic on silver screen with her portrayal of a character that was of a girl belonging to a well to do family, losing her memory. Then comes Kamal Hassan in the story who takes care of mentally challenged Sridevi and helps her in regaining her memory and good health. But, the twist comes when Sridevi after regaining her memory is not able to recognize Kamal Hassan. The last scene broke a million heart when the kind hearted Kamal is left alone, earning only heartbreak and sadness. The movie was also remade in Bollywood under the name Sadma with the same director and cast.
