The film was intended to capitalize on the success of the Malayalam original. The Malayalam version was one of the great hits of its time. It was the brainchild of
and was titled Bangalore days. But this movie failed to capture all familial fun and spontaneous humour that made the original a successful venture. It seems all remakes can learn a lesson.
This movie proves beyond a shred of doubt that casting a strong lead will certainly amplify the chances of success of a venture. Despite an interesting premise and an above-average compelling story, many viewers felt that the lead simply wasn’t able to portray the essence of the character.
Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum
The creators thought that a remake of the Korean film, ‘My Dear Desperado’, would fare well among the local audience. Unfortunately, despite a praiseworthy performance from the leads, the movie was not the hit it was expected to be.
The film took on some dark themes which are somewhat timeless that plague many a household. But the cinema goers were not too enthusiastic about the melancholy stuff portrayed on the screen. Perhaps it was just poor timing. Nevertheless, it was a lesson on gauging the mindset of the cinema goers.
5. Tharai Thappattai
This is one of those instances of a good movie not making an impact at the box office. Perhaps the Indian movie-going public should sit up and take notice of good works of art. Featuring compelling performances by the leads in the roles of folk artists in a society of
songs, the movie served as a timely reminder of looking to our culture and supporting it. It was unfortunate that the creators didn’t get the response the movie deserved.
A generic plot paired with some clichéd performances doesn’t appeal even to people who may watch movies just to pass the time. These people should have seen this one coming from a mile away.
7. Nee Jathaga Nenundali
Aashiqui 2 serves as the source material for this film. However, the movie has reportedly been unable to even hold a candle to the original. Perhaps the key ingredient itself was missing from the film: a sizzling chemistry.
8. Laddu Babu
Despite the film being a light-hearted comedy and
a dependable lead, it couldn’t make any waves at the box office. Sometimes serving the same old dishes is not enough to hit a chord with the audience.
The creators thought this was a safe bet considering that superstar, Nani, would be in the lead role. However, the cinema-lovers seemed to think otherwise. A little more focus on the plot would have helped.
10. Chandama Lo Amrutham:
Venditerapai Vendivenala Despite its unusual premise and a seemingly interesting plot, the movie failed to raise the bar with the audience. It will perhaps find fame in lists only like these.
