Well, what is underrated? It just means that you don’t get commensurate recognition for your work.. Now, let’s take a look at some of the underrated actors/actresses of Kollywood.
Rajesh is one actor who keeps calm and composed in most of his movies. He gives a restrained performance. His performances in Mahanadhi, Acchamillai Accchamillai, Autograph, Andha Ezhu Natkal, etc. deserve special mention.
Debuting with the Tamil movie Nammavar, where he gave a stellar performance as a spoilt college guy, Karan seemed to be a promising actor. Later he did a variety of roles. However, though he went on to do superb performances he never rose to a star’s status.
Thalaivasal Vijay is surely an actor par excellence, and he has worked in over 100 films. He appeared in supporting roles in various films and gave an earnest performance.
Sujatha was the muse of legendary director K Balachander during her heyday. She had given flawless performances in his films including
Aval Oru Thodarkathai, Avargal, etc. Yet, later she was offered only supporting roles including that of a mother.
Nizhalgal Ravi essayed a multitude of roles and his performance in Marupadiyum deserves special mention
Andrea is a multi-faceted actress who can act, sing and dub in her own voice. She has a distinct style of acting that is appealing. Perhaps if she had worked on more films, she would have been in the top league of actresses.
Delhi Ganesh has worked in several Tamil films. Whether it is a comical or a negative role, Delhi Ganesh essays them beautifully. His voice modulation is one of his biggest strengths.
Suhasini is no doubt an actress par excellence. She has given exemplary performances in Tamil films such as En Bommukutti Ammavukku,
Sindhu Bhairavi and Manadhil Urudhi Vendum. However, she has not been seen in Tamil cinema often, and she gradually shifted her concentration to other languages. She could have done more roles in Tamil too.
Prabhu Deva has proved his mettle as a director and choreographer. Yet unfortunately, he never got his due as an actor. He had done some superb performances in Minsara Kanavu, Vanattha Pola and Kaadhalan.
Jayam Ravi was one of the most underrated actors, but now he has proved his mettle with
Thani Oruvan. His performances in M Kumaran S/O Mahalakshmi and Peranmai deserve special mention.
