Tamil films have seen several popular actresses (say actresses who are height at the height of their success) who have donned the second lead in the films. Perhaps they accept these roles due to the weight attached to it. Sometimes certain famous actresses have even acted in sister roles where they should be doing the heroine roles.  Now let’s see some of the Kollywood actresses who were brave enough to play second heroines or sisters or even went on to supporting roles when they at the height of their career. .

Lakshmi Menon

Lakshmi was at the height of her career when she played the sister of Ajith in Vedalam. She accepted the role since it was a perfect fodder to her acting skills. Shruti Haasan played the female lead in the movie.

Devayani

Devayani too was equally famous when she did films like Pancha Thanthiram and Thenali. While in Pancha Thanthiram she had a short role (Simran was the main heroine), in Thenali she had a considerably good role (Jyothika was the main heroine).

Sneha

Sneha was at the zenith of her career when she accepted Pammal K Sambhandham which had Kamal Haasan and Simran doing main roles. However, the arrogant yet innocent role of Sneha was also appreciated. She also played second fiddle in Paarthal Pasi Theerum which had Madhavan and Simran in the lead roles.

Nithya Menen

Nithya Menen is a woman of great talent and she proved that with Oh Kadhal Kanmani. However, she didn’t mind to do second lead in the Suriya-Samantha starrer 24.

Bhumika Chawla

Bhumika Chawla, though acted only in few Tamil films has a special place in the minds of the Tamil audiences. She gave a mesmerizing performance in Sillunu Oru Kadhal though she was the second lead in the film. Suriya and Jyothika were the lead actors of the film.
