The glamour world looks beautiful to us. There is money in it, fame and there are people who constantly running after you, taking care of you, handling your tantrums and trying their best to make life easier for you. However, the grass is always greener on the other side. A lot of people want what these few actors have, and they all leave everything behind with the hope of achieving it. But not everyone can be a Shah Rukh Khan or Deepika Padukone. Bollywood or Indian Cinema is cruel from the inside and filled with more blood than we know. Uncountable people commit suicide when they see themselves drowned in debt, or their lives leading nowhere, or get stuck in some scandal. The following is a list of 20 such celebrities who have committed suicide.

1. Pratyusha Banerjee

Her death came as a huge shock to the television industry. The actress has projects lined up for her, had done some great projects in her past, including being a part of Balika Vadhu as the female lead and apparently had her money matter sorted. The blame game continues but rests mainly on her boyfriend and his girlfriend, who have been proven to mentally torture and physically abuse the actress.

2. Jiah Khan

June 3, 2013 was the most shocking day for a lot of us, when the beautiful actress Jiah Khan was found hanging in her bedroom. She was best known for her role opposite Amitabh Bachchan in the movie ‘Nishabd’, and was in a relationship with Sooraj Pancholi during the time of her suicide. Her suicide letter holds him responsible for all the problems in her life and her mother too blamed him for leaving no other option before Jiah.

3. Nafisa Joseph

Miss Universe 1977 took her own life in 2004, when she was found dead in her Versova house. She had hanged herself and was engaged to marry her fiancé, who was a businessman in a few weeks. The man she was about to marry became the cause of the suicide, as he had claimed to have divorced his wife a couple of years ago but was still married to her.

4. Divya Bharti

The actress died at a very young age when she was still a teenager. At 19, she fell to her death and since then, people have been speculating her death and the reasons behind it. Although there are a lot of conspiracy revolving around the incident, there are no concrete answers. No one even knows whether she actually committed suicide or fell down. Some 11 months before her death, she had married director and producer Sajid Nadiadwala.

5. Guru Dutt

Sleeping pills and alcohol are both bad choices, and taken together, they are among the worst things that anyone can do to their body. But after having a failed relationship with Waheeda Rehman and witnessing a failing marriage with Geeta Dutt, the iconic director and actor committed suicide.

6. Silk Smitha

Vijayalakshmi, better known as the South Indian sex symbol Silk Smitha, killed herself in 1996 on the 23rd of September. She had hanged herself after being surrounded by a number of problems that were leading to more and more troubles each day. Every possible problem that one can imagine facing were crumbling her, like alcohol dependence, financial troubles, failed relationships and career problems, all leading up to a crushing depression.

7. Kuljeet Randhawa

The actress hanged herself to her fan in 2006 on the 8th of February in her apartment at Juhu. Her note stated that she could not handle the pressure she was facing in her life and was hence taking her life. She had been a model for Gladrags and a TV show host along with being an actress.

8. Sai Prashanth

Popular South Indian actor killed himself by mixing poison in his drinks. He left a note stating that it was his decision and no should be blamed for it. It rocked the entire industry, as the actor was barely 30 when he killed himself on the 15th of March this year. Police has stated that loneliness could have prompted him to kill himself.

9. Uday Kiran

The actor had won Filmfare award for his performance, but awards cannot solve the problems of life. The actor had hanged himself in his residence in Hyderabad after having struggled with financial problems, and a canceled engagement with ‘Chiranjeevi’s daughter, which had lead to depression.

10. Viveka Babajee

The model gained prominence after her Kamasutra Ad became a hit. But she was found dead in 2010, having killed herself by hanging on the ceiling fan after a failed career and failing relationships.

11. Parveen Babi

The actress was one of the best that Bollywood had ever seen. However, the actress who had millions of fans did not have anyone to share her life with. She lived alone, and was found dead only after her neighbours noticed that she had not come out of her house to collect the newspaper and milk. This was in the year 2005, when she starved herself to death despite suffering from diabetes.

12. Manmohan Desai

When one tastes success, it becomes difficult to accept failure. The director and producer had been successful for the most part of his life, but later the audience’s preferences changed and his movies no longer impressed them. So, in 1994, he jumped off his balcony and ended a long and legendary career that had names like Dharam Veer, and Amar Akbar Anthony to boast of.

13. Kunal Singh

The actor was doing well in Bhojpuri and South Indian cinema and had a few good Bollywood films under his belt too, like “Dil Hi Dil Mein” opposite Sonali Bendre, but the actor was struggling in his personal life. His relationship with his wife was turbulent and stressful and he was not allowed to be near his children at all, which lead him to kill himself.

14. Shikha Joshi

Another one of the more recent suicides, Shikha had been a part of the movie B. A. Pass. She lived in the elite part of Versova in a rented apartment with her roommate where he was found dead. She was lying in a pool of her blood, with a knife thrust in her throat. The matter still remains under investigation.

15. Disha Ganguly

She was a popular Bengali actress and was all set to marry her fiancé, with whom she had gone to watch the first IPL match at Eden Gardens the night before the day on which she committed suicide. They went to the match together, he dropped her home and in the morning, after she did not pick any of his calls, he broke into her house to find her hanging from the ceiling fan.

16. Sunanda Pushkar

Although she was not exactly an actress, she was quite the celebrity. She had recently married Shashi Tharoor and was said to be leading a troubled life when she decided to commit suicide in one of Delhi’s hotel room. To the general public, it came as a huge surprise and the blame game went on for quite a while, often times landing on her husband Shashi Tharoor.

17. Ruby Singh

Bhojpuri film industry mostly produces films that are loud and the kind that its fans thoroughly enjoy. However, just because its songs are fun, does not mean it is not a challenging industry. It has the same pressures as Bollywood, and that is what drove Ruby, who was a Bhojpuri actress to kill herself in her residence at the suburban area in Goregaon.

18. Shobha

At the age of 17-19, the South Indian actress had worked in over 30 films and had own the National Award for her film ‘Pasi’. Her mother blamed her 45 year old husband Balu Mahendra for the suicide, as he spent a lot of his day and nights at his ex-wife’s house. Evidence emerged that her death may not have been a suicide as the nose had been loosened, and her eyes were not swollen, among other things, but the death was still declared a suicide.

19. Simple Kapadia

‘Dimple Kapadia’s younger sister had appeared in a few films, including ‘Haveli’ opposite Marc Zuber and Rakesh Roshan. In 2009, during her stay in London, the actress overdosed on drugs. The death was suspicious as there were rumours of her involvement in the flesh trade that also involved the Hindujas, but no further probation was done on the basis of these suspicions.

20. Saiyyam Khanna

Better known as Mona Khanna, the actress was a part of the “Haunted House” and also “The Last Horror”. Her dead body was found by her younger sister who had come over to stay for her summer breaks. She blamed the suicide on Mona’s boyfriend, who was also the son of a popular actor. This happened in 2014, and even the last contact she made was also to this boyfriend who had pushed her into depression by neglecting her.
