Nafisa Joseph was a model and MTV video jockey. She was also a theater and film actor. She did a brief cameo in Subash Ghai’s ‘
’. She also acted in a TV series ‘C.A.T.S, in Sony Entertainment TV channel that was an Indian adaptation of Charlie’s Angels. She hosted the ‘Style Show’ on the Star World television channel in 2004. She even launched a new television programming unit ‘2’s Company’ with the help of her fiancé, Gautam Khanduja, whom she had wanted to marry. She was also the editor of a magazine called Gurlz.
Nafisa Joseph was born in Bangalore on 28 March 1978. She was born to Nirmal Joseph, a Keralite Christian and Usha Joseph, a Bengali. Her mother Usha is the first cousin of actress
. This model could speak fluent Bengali. In 1999, she was one of the judges for the MTV VJ Hunt show. Later, she was associated with MTV channel as host and anchor for five years. She was attracted to glamor world in Mumbai and wanted to face the arc lights always. It was for this reason; she became a successful model. She began her modeling at an age of 12. Later, she was groomed up as a model by Prasad Bidapa.
It was in 1997 that Nafisa had won the title of Femina Miss India Universe contest and became a semi-finalist in the Miss Universe 1997 pageant in Miami. Touted as the youngest and thinnest model in 1997, she won praise from the fashion fraternity for her no-nonsense attitude. She was linked with many good looking actors of her time such as
, Sameer Soni, and
. But it was her madness in love with a married businessman Gautam Khanduja that had put an end to her life all of a sudden. Nafisa committed suicide because her wedding was called off as her fiance’s divorce papers were not coming through. Nafisa was found dead in her flat in Versova on 29 July 2004.
