Sadashiv Amrapurkar Hindi Actor

Sadashiv Amrapurkar

Sadashiv Amarapurkar (Sadashiv Dattaray Amarapurkar) is a versatile actor who had predominantly acted in Hindi and Marathi cinema. As a versatile performer, he even overcame the language barrier and acted in other Indian languages such as Bengali, Tamil, Oriya, Haryanvi, and Telugu even.  He was often known for playing negative characters or even baddie or villain character in many films but never got typecast. With a super cinematic career of more than three decades, the actor was a multi-talented and unconventional person. After his first success in big screen after Ardh Satya, he had never looked back. Soon, he got a chance to play a villain role in director K. Bhagyaraj’s first Hindi film ‘Aaakhree Rasta’ with Amitabh Bachchan. The greatest asset of this actor was modulation of voice in his dialogue delivery that holds a stellar career spanning every medium for approximately 25 years, in theater, television and movies.  Sadashiv was born in Ahmednagar on May 11, 1950. Over the years, Sadashiv had gained the reputation of a respected and strong actor who did even cameo roles too in his career. He was one of the most sought-after actors in every movie that got released in the period of 1983 to 1999. For most of his career, he was best-known for playing a corrupted politician ( Aakhree Rasta) or a police officer( Mohra), though he also reached a new audience with comedy roles in film like ‘Aankhen’.  After Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan), perhaps no villain was as vicious and intense like Sadashiv. His role as a brothel owner and eunuch in ‘Sadak’ with Pooja Bhatt was the best negative role essayed by an actor in Indian cinema. As a cunning Don in Ardh Satya, which launched the career of Sadashiv in the screen, was a small role but impressive to fetch him an award that remains the best in the screen.  Before getting a break in the movie, Sadashiv was entirely engaged in directing and even acting in theatre. He has done 50 stage shows and performed in 150 one-act plays in his career in Mumbai’s Indian National Theatre. Since he was a stage artiste, his intensity in performance was so high that he could infuse comedy in villain role (Ishq) and even portray a cop role with comedy sense. Besides acting in plays and movies, the actor took a keen interest as a philanthropist and social activist too.  He joined the movement of Anna Hazare. His sudden demise for lung infection was great loss to the movie world and the void created by his death cannot be filled by anybody else. He passed away on November 3rd, 2014.
