Sajid Nadiadwala is undoubtedly one of the most influential film personalities in the history of Bollywood. He is perhaps Hollywood’s best commercial filmmaker who has his countless big-grossing, critically acclaimed credits to his name, as a producer, director and owner of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. Sajid Nadiadwala was born on February 18th, in the year 1966, in Mumbai into a family of successful movie producers.
The year 2015 has marked 60 years of successful journey in filmmaking for Nadiadwala. His family has been running film business since 1955 and had purchased more than 200 films. His grandfather Abdul Karim Nadiadwala had named film company A K Movies and made historical and off-beat films like Inspector, Taj Mahal, Patthar Ke Sanam and Chitralekha and won critical appreciation too then. His father Sulieman Nadiadwala was also into film production business. Sajid is the third generation to carry forward his father and grandfather’s legacy into the film business. The tradition started by his grandfather Abdul Karim Nadiadwala, who came to Mumbai in 1955 and started producing films.
The journey of 60 years is, by one telling, the story of the general interest the filmmaker’s family had despite ups and downs in the film business. Sajid has been producing for over 25 years. He ventured as a director in the year 2014. For him, 2014 was phenomenal with Highway, Heropanti,
and Kick, which were all blockbuster movies. Sajid had made successful movies with heroes like ,
and Dharmendra. As a producer, he had joined hands with
to produce films like ‘2 States’.
Sajid career graph reached its lower graph with a film like Jaan-E-Maan(2006), but in 2007 ‘
’ became a huge hit. He could not repeat the same magic with ‘Kambakkht Ishq (2010),' which had Hollywood big stars such as Denise Richards, Sylvester Stallone, and Brandon Routh. In the same year, he released ‘Anjaana Anjaana’ with Ranbir Kapoor and
, which was again an average success. In 2012, his film ‘Houseful -2’ was declared a blockbuster. Sajid is a very close friend of Salman Khan and expectations are there he is likely to launch a new film project ‘
’ with Salman’s lucky boy Sooraj Pancholi.
Sajid Nadiadwala’s Dishoom, directed by
, which stars
in lead roles, is expected to release on February 2016. After making both Houseful and Houseful-2, the director is all set to release another version Houseful-3 in 2016. Nadiadwala represents the new wave generation filmmaker whose films draw huge crowds into the cinema house in the first show of release itself. Sajid is second-top earning movie producer of Bollywood in 2014 and has made an estimated earning of Rs 419.25 crore.
