will now become a war hero!
According to the latest reports, the actor cum filmmaker has bagged the rights to the book ‘Operation Khukri’. Based on the rescue mission undertaken by the Indian Army in 2000, when more than 200 peacekeeping soldiers of the UN were trapped by insurgents in Sierra Leone, Randeep Hooda will not only produce the movie, but also act as one of the heroes, Major [now Major General] Rajpal Punia.
Major Rajpal Punia was a young company commander in the 75th Mechanised Infantry, which was posted in Sierra Leone as a part of the UN Peacekeeping Force. When insurgents laid siege in 2000, a battalion was cut off from supplies for 75 days in hostile land, which included a company force of Indian soldiers as well. Major Punia pulled them out of trouble, and was awarded the Yudh Seva Medal by the President of India in 2002.
This is the first time that Randeep Hooda will be playing a war hero, although he had donned the uniform hero. In the Hollywood film Extraction, which released in 2020, Hooda played the role of Saju Rao, a mercenary who was once part of the Para Special Forces of the Indian Army.
