Ponniyin Selvan is a film directed by Mani Ratnam, based on the novel by the late novelist Kalki Krishnamoorthy. The novel Kalki wrote was in serialized format and was published from 1950 to 1954. It was made into a book form in 1955. Though a lot of people, right from MGR to Kamal Haasan, tried to make the novel into a film, hard work, and luck favoured only Mani Ratnam. Jayam Ravi played the titular role and impressed the audience. Vikram played his brother, and Karthi played Vikram’s friend. Prakash Raj, Sarathkumar, Jayaram, Prabhu, and Ashwin Kakumanu played significant roles in this film.
