P. Unnikrishnan, the playback singer, needs no introduction to music lovers. His voice is equally suitable for classical music, film music, devotional music and even light music. The actor has sung many devotional songs of Lord Ganesha, Lord Ayyappan, Lord Venkateswara, and Devi among others. This singer is a disciple of Dr. S. Ramanathan.
Unnikrishnan has balanced both classical music and light music well and never allowed him to get carried away for just compulsion of cinematic glamor. This Carnatic vocalist was born on July 9, 1964, in Palakkad, Kerala. He, however, did his schooling and college studies in Chennai. He even worked as an executive in Parry s Confectionery Ltd. (from 1987 to 1994) but quit his job to evolve as a professional playback singer. Unnikrishnan's great grandfather Dr. K. N. Kesari was the promoter of the popular Telugu women's magazine Gruhalakshmi and a renowned Ayurvedic physician.
Unnikrishnan’s initial movies itself fetched him the national award; it was for the song Ennavale Adi Ennavale" (film Kadhalan) and "Uyirum Neeye" ( film Pavithra). Both the songs were composed by A. R. Rahman. The singer then formed an excellent combination with A.R. Rahman and went to give many hit songs in films like ‘
Karuthamma’, ‘Kadhal Desam’ and ‘Anthimanthaarai’. The singer also has sung sweet solo and duet numbers for music composers like Deva, S. A. Rajkumar, Ilayaraja, etc. Unni also had sung songs with veteran playback singers such as Chitra,

The singer is more at ease in singing classical songs than pop songs. In 1997, he ventured into Telugu playback singing in a film ‘Ugadi’ where he sang under music composition of S.V.

Unni is married to Priya, a classical dancer. They were married on November 1994 and had a son named Vasudev Krishna and a daughter named Uthara. Now Uthara is also following her father’s legacy as a talented singer.
P. Unnikrishnan was born on 9 July 1966 in Kerala to K. Radhakrishnan and Dr. Harini Radhakrishnan. He is a playback singer, a Carnatic vocalist and a classical singer. His family house, Kesari Kuteeram, was a famous landmark in Madras as his great grandfather was a well known Ayurvedic physician of the area.
Unnikrishnan attended Asian Memorial Senior Secondary School in Chennai and graduated from Madras University earning a B. Com degree. He also got a Post Graduate Diploma in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations. Before becoming a professional singer, he worked in Parry’s Confectionary Ltd. as an executive. He took his first steps in the Carnatic music at a very young age of twelve years. He first attended a workshop of six months under Sangeetha Kalanidhi. He says that Sangita Kalanidhi and Dr. S. Ramanathan were his inspirations.
Unnikrishnan made his debut with the Tamil song Ennavale Adi Ennavale and Uyirum Neeye for which he won a national award in the category of a playback singer. Unnikrishnan also acts as a judge, in the reality, shows AIRTEL Super Singer and Idea Star Singer. His priority is to sing classical songs, and he says that the taste of generation has changed. He further said that his responsibility is to make sure that the youth enjoys his music.

Unni Krishnan loves cricket and due to his passion for it, he became the member of Madras Cricket Club and Tamil Nadu Cricket Association.
