Indian playback singer Sharda Rajan Iyengar, also known as Sharda, was active in the 1960s and 1970s. She was born on 25th October 1937. Although she is most known for her song Titli Udi from the movie Suraj, she received the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the song Baat Zara Hai Aapas Ki in Jahan Pyar Miley (1970). Sharda, who comes from an Iyengar family in Tamil Nadu, India, has always had a passion for music. She is unique in that she holds a bachelor's degree. When Raj Kapoor first heard Sharda singing at a function at Shrichand Ahuja's house in Tehran early in her career, he gave her a voice test. With the song Titli Udi in Suraj, she received her first significant break in Bollywood (1966).

After Sharda got passed over for the award, Filmfare began presenting two prizes for the best playback singer: one for male singers and one for female singers. Sharda thus created history. After that, Sharda had four consecutive nominations (1968–71) for best female playback singer and went to win another Filmfare. When the Mangeshkar Sisters were in charge, Sharda quickly won two Filmfare awards. She then kept singing in almost all of Shankar films until his passing.

In the middle of the 1970s, she decided to become a music director, and Shraddha started composing the music for movies like Maa Behen Aur Biwi, Tu Meri Main Tera, Kshitij, Mandir Masjid, and Maila Anchal. Mohd Rafi got nominated for Filmfare Best Male Playback Singer Award for the song Achcha Hi Hua Dil Toot Gaya from Maa Behen Aur Biwi (1974), which he sang under Sharda's music direction. Some of her popular songs are Titli udi (Suraj), Dekho mera dil machal gaya (Suraj), Baat Zara Hai Aapas Ki (Jahan Pyar miley, 1970, Filmware Award Winner), Aa Aayega kaun yahan (Gumnaam), Jigar ka dard badhta ja raha hai, Jaan e Chaman Shola badan, Masti Aur Jawani Ho Umar Badi Mastani Ho.
