She completed her schooling from GGHS Wadakanchery and graduation from Sri Vyasa NSS College, Wadakanchery. She was married to Arun Sadasivan on January 2011, but later filed for divorce in family court on 14 March 2012.
She was a classical dancer and an English teacher in Devamatha CBSE school, Thrissur before get cast into television serials. Rachana began her career with acting in small role as the heroine's friend in the critically acclaimed movie 'Theerthadanam' (directed by G.R Kannan). “Though it was a small role, I consider it a gratifying experience to have begun my career through a film by M T sir,” says Rachana. She also acted in a Short Film named as 'I.C.U' directed by Anoop (son of veteran Malayalam director Sathyan Anthikaad) which further gave her a chance to act as lead heroine in Malayalam movie 'Luckystar' with Jayaram.
