Sathaar

Sathaar was an Indian film actor and producer who predominantly worked in the Malayalam industry, with countable roles in Tamil and Telugu movies. He has worked in over 140 movies, both as the protagonist and antagonist. At times, he has played character roles as well. Sathaar debuted as an actor in the 1975 movie, ‘Bharyaye Avashyamund’ (Wife Wanted), which was directed by M. Krishnan Nair. 

Sathaar was born on May 25th, 1952 in Kodungallur in Aluva, Kerala. He was the 9th of 10 children born to Khadarpillai, who was a landlord, and Fathima, who was a housewife. Sathaar completed his education at Government High School West in Aluva. He is a Master’s degree holder in History from Union Christian College. 

Sathaar married Jayabharthi, who was a very popular actress of the late 1970s. They have a son, Krish J. Sathaar, an upcoming Malayalam actor and entrepreneur, debuted in the Malayalam industry in the 2013 Mohanlal starrer, ‘Ladies and Gentleman.’ Though the couple parted ways in 1989, they maintained an amicable relationship.

After debuting as an actor in ‘Bharyaye Avashyamund,’ his first role as a protagonist was in the 1976 Malayalam movie ‘Anaavaranam,’ directed by A. Vincent. Sathaar returned to the big screen after a sabbatical with the 2012 movie ‘22 Female Kottayam,’ after which he acted in ‘Natholi Oru Cheriya Meenalla’ (2013) and ‘Mr. Fraud’ (2014). The 2014 movie ‘Parayan Baaki Vecha’ was his last project. He has also produced ‘Black Mail’ (1985), ‘Revenge’ (1985), and ‘Kambolam’ (1994). Sathaar breathed his last breath on September 17, 2019 at a private hospital in Aluva. He had been undergoing treatment for liver issues.
