Timeri N Murari is a renowned Indian screenwriter, journalist, and novelist. He was born on 29 July 1941 in Madras, India and attended Bishop Cotton’s Boys School in Bangalore, Karnataka. He moved the UK at 18 years to pursue Electronics Engineering. But later, he switched his major to political Science and History at McGill University, Montreal. During his university days, he started writing for newspapers like The Guardian. He landed on his first job as a reporter in Kingston Whig Standard in Kingston Ontario. Then, he started writing for The New York Times, The Washington Post, Cosmopolitan, and others. His first novel was The Marriage which was published in the UK and in India. After that he wrote a total of 18 books which were translated to many other languages. Out of the 18 books, 14 are fictional pieces which includes the bestseller Taj, The Taliban Cricket Club. Taj was translated into more than 25 languages and the latter into nine languages.
His novels Field of Honour and Four Steps from Paradise are semi biographical. He wrote a children’s book called the ‘Children of the Enchanted Jungle.’ Many of his novels were re-issued in 2019 by Penguin and his travel memoire Empress of the Taj, In search of Mumtaz Mahal was also published in 2019.
