Andrew Davenport is an English writer, producer, composer, puppeteer and, actor. He was born on 10th June 1965, in Folkestone, Kent, England. He did his schooling at the Trinity School and pursued BSc Speech Sciences during which he took vocational training for Speech Therapists at University College London and the National Hospitals College of Speech Sciences (NHCSS). He creates television and publishing for young children. He is an acclaimed creator of high-volume and technologically trailblazing productions based on character, designed for developmentally appropriate audiences that appeal to their pre-school age group. In 1993–98, Davenport joined Ragdoll Productions as a puppeteer where he played the character of Tiny in the double BAFTA-winning series Tots TV and, co-wrote the series of 297 episodes with Robin Stevens. In 1994, Davenport appeared as Rascally Robber in two episodes of the series Brum.
In 1997, Davenport co-created Teletubbieswith Anne Wood for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). This was the first broadcast in the UK. Davenport himself wrote all the 365 episodes of this series. In 2002-03, Andrew Davenport wrote the award-winning series Teletubbies Everywhere. In the year 2007–09, Davenport wrote and composed music for all episodes of the double BAFTA-winning, In the Night Garden. Andrew Davenport became the CEO of Shine Group in March 2012, which focused on creating interactive content for children, initially for the pre-school market. Besides, he wrote the English scripts for the Dutch TV, Fabeltjeskrant. In 2019, Davenport's new series Moon and Me was released on CBeebies.
Moon and Me features stop-motion animated toys that come to life when their owner sleeps. In 1996 and 1997, Davenport won the double BAFTA Awards for Tots TV. In 1997, Teletubbies won the Royal Television Society Children’s Entertainment Award. In the 24th Japan Prize International Contest, Teletubbies was the Grand Prize-winner in the Pre-school Education Category 1997. Furthermore, in 1998, Teletubbies won the BAFTA Award, in the Best Pre-school Programme category. In 2000, Teletubbies won the Royal Television Society Best Pre-school and Infant Award and in 2002, Teletubbies Everywhere won the BAFTA Best Pre-school Live Action Award. In 2007 and 2008, In the Night Garden won the BAFTA Best Pre-school Live Action Awards.
