Born on August 25, 1965, in Kentucky, U.S, Mia Katherine Zapata was the American singer, who was the lead vocalist of The Gits, the punk band of Seattle. She learned to play the piano and the guitar at the age of nine. In 1984, Mia enlisted as a liberal arts understudy at Antioch College situated in Yellow Springs at Ohio.

In September of 1986, she and her three companions shaped the punk musical crew named The Gits. The group included Zapata as a singer, Joe Spleen as a guitarist, Mathew Fred Dresdner as a bass player and Steve Moriarty as a drummer.

In 1989, the band migrated to Seattle in Washington. Mia found a vocation at a nearby bar, and the four band individuals shifted into an abandoned house, which they called "The Rathouse." The band released a series of welcomed singles on independent local record labels from 1990-91. As the Gits were becoming well-known in the nearby music scene, they frequently played shows with 7 Year Bitch, a band of their friends.

The group discharged collection name Frenching, the Bully in 1992. They went on a tour outside Seattle and tour of Europe. In any case, the occasions on the night of 7 July of 1993 changed everything. Mia left the Comet Tavern restaurant in the wake of hanging out with companions and was as far as anyone knows going to search for a previous boyfriend. A couple of hours after the fact, police found her dead on an empty road approximately two miles from the restaurant.

She was fiercely raped and choked to death. The second collection that the band worked at the time of Zapata's passing Enter: The Conquering Chicken, was released in 1994.Unfortunately, Police was unable to discover Zapata's killer. This prompted The Gits fan Joan Jett, a celebrated musician fronting the band for a live collection named Evil Stig, with expectations to raise money in regard for the case and ideally unravelling the murder in 1995.

The band name changed to Evil Stig after Joan Jett joined the group. After a very long time since Mia's demise, the ex-Gits individual’s issued remastered forms of their two studio collections and set up together posthumously album name Seafish Louisville in 2000. At last, in December of 2002, through DNA prove a Seattle analyst could find Mia's killer, who later condemned to 36 years in jail. The documentary based on the band named The Gits Movie was released in 2005.

A bunch of people formed a group of awareness in the memory of Mia Zapata titled Home Alive and the band 7 Year Bitch released a collection named Viva Zapata! A tribute to Mia in 1994.
