American billion dollar producer Jordan Kerner was born on February 5, 1950, in Los Angeles, California. His mother is Jeannette Kerner. She is an actress. From his childhood, he wanted to tell stories which made people enjoy it and emotional at the same time. He went to University of Southern California and he graduated in BA Political Science and Communication in 1972. Later, he did an MBA from University of California in 1976.
He initiated his career with CBS-TV in 1971 and he transferred to CBS Entertainments in 1977 and later he left CBS to join Universal Television in 1978. He assisted different positions and finally reached the Vice President of Dramatic Develop in 1983 at ABC Entertainments. Jordon Kerner entered the mainstream film production in 1986. He established The Avent/Kerner Co. in 1986 along with Jon Avnet and he debuted as the producer for the feature film in Less Than Zero. He even acted a minor role in Less Than Zero. Later, he produced Side by Side. It is his first television movie as a producer. He appeared in George of the Jungle 2 in the minor role.
In 2001, The Avent/Kerner Co. changed into Kerner Entertainment Company. His well-known works include D3: The Mighty Ducks in 1996, My Last Love in 1999, The Smurfs Click to look into! >> Read More... in 2011 and The Smurfs 2 in 2013. The movies Jordon Kerner produced were almost blockbusters. His efforts didn't go in vain and they were also commercially hit. For the movies The Smurfs and The Smurfs 2, he garnered accolades from the critics and the audience. He is said to have subjective political knowledge and some of the political aspects do appear in his movies. All his stories and plots have the penchant for entertainment and the message. They make the children laugh but come out with a message.
When asked about the reason behind those constructive and stirring storylines, he dates back to his childhood. All his childhood memories are included in his plots. His masterpieces, Less Than Zero, and When a Man Loves a Woman, has the plotlines which takes the major part of addiction. But they also convey messages related to family life. Most of his films have a philosophical approach. Though he deals with the problems as the major themes, he believes that he want to make people feel human with his films.
In Fried Green Tomatoes, he introduces the political and societal aspects, sexism into the plot but never bombards them into the audience’s minds. He is producing the world's best self-help selling book Chicken Soup for the Soul into a movie. He was appointed as the dean of filmmaking at University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Coming to his personal life, he married Nicola O'Shea and they have three daughters.
