James Garner is an actor, voice artist and a producer who hails from the American film industry. He was born on April 7th, 1928, in Norman. He was the youngest of his three siblings. His mother expired when he was five years of age. He then went to live with relatives. He was reunified with his family when his eldest brother got married in 1934. Garner’s father remarried several times, and he faced the cruelty meted to him by his stepmother. His father left the boys after his marriages failed and moved to Los Angeles. He worked at several places for a livelihood, and finally joined the Merchant Marine of United States during the second World War when he was 16 years of age. He suffered from seasickness during the tenure of his job.
After the end of the war, Garner moved to Los Angeles where he got admitted to Hollywood High School. He also worked in a job in which designing of bathing suits was done, but he quit the job soon. He went back to Norman and played football at Norman High School. He did not complete his graduation from school but got a diploma from the Army. Garner enrolled as a National Guard serving firstly in California and then in North Korea. He received the Purple Heart twice. Garner started appearing in television commercials and roles in 1955.

In the 1970s, he appeared in Rockford Files, and The New Maverick. Garner married Lois Josephine Clark in 1956. In 1979, he separated from her. They reunited in 1981 and remained together till their last breath. Garner faced a chronic problem in his knees and underwent a major surgery in 2008 following a stroke. He was the owner of a racing team, a golfer, a football player, and also a politician. Garner was nominated for 15 Emmy Awards and also got honoured with many awards and nominations. He received the Golden Globe Award, Primetime Emmy Award, Academy Awards, and TCA Awards. He died in 2014 at the age of 86.
