Ed Guiney is a prominent Irish film producer, best known for his works in the 2015 absurdist dystopian comedy-drama film, The Lobster and the 2016 Irish drama film, A Date for Mad Mary. He was born on February 18, 1966, and was raised in Ballsbridge, Dublin. He studied at St. Michaels and later attended Gonzaga College in Ranelagh. Ed’s father is a Doctor, while his mother is an Anaesthetist. During his teenage years, Ed wanted to become a film producer. When he was still studying, he used to write letters to Morgan O’Sullivan and tried to get a job during summer.

At college, he worked as an intern for John Kelleher and David Collins. That’s when he learned about scheduling films. Ed also studied ESS (now BES or Business, Economic and Social Studies) at Trinity College in Dublin. Lenny Abrahamson, who directed the film, Room, was his friend way back. They, along with Stephen Rennicks and Michael Joy, set up a filmmaking society called TV Co. (Trinity Video Company) and started making documentaries using the latest film equipment. Their first on-screen credit was Mendel Waldman, a documentary based on Lenny Abrahamson’s grandfather.

In the early 90’s, Ed and Lenny created a short film entitled 3 Joes. Ed’s group also has a studio, which they called, Bow Lane. They are also doing short films, and the first film he produced was entitled Ailsa, which was directed by Paddy Breathnach in the year 1993. Though it was a very low budget film, the film bagged a prize at San Sebastian. Ed also worked in the production of Gerard Stembridge’s Guiltrip (1995) and John Carney’s Zonad (2009). He also worked with Carney in the comedy-drama series, Bachelors Walk. In 2011, he co-produced John Michael McDonagh’s most successful Independent Irish film of all time, The Guard.

He founded the production and film distribution company, Element Pictures, along with Andrew Lowe in 2001. Ed co-produced the Canadian-Irish independent drama film, Room, under the banner of Element Pictures. The Room was based on Emma Donoghue’s best-selling novel of the same name, which stars Brie Larson Brie Larson is an American singer and actress born >> Read More... , Joan Allen Joan Allen, an American actress, was born in Roche >> Read More... , Jacob Tremblay Jacob was born on October 5, 2006. In 2015, it was announced that Ed and Lenny Abrahamson would team up in the film adaptation of Donald McRae’s A Man’s World: The Double Life of Emile Griffith. The duo will also work on Sarah Water’s The Little Stranger, which will be produced by Egan’s Potboiler Productions and Neverhome, which is based on Laird Hunt’s novel.
